In total it was 1470 kilometers, 14 cycling days, and 9 days of sightseeing. I had a great time and will gladly
look back on it with fond memories in the future.
Traffic: I’ve read that cycling in Spain is dangerous. This is now my third tour in Spain with over 3500 km. and must say that the opposite is the case. Never did I experience inconsiderate drivers. With oncoming traffic, they always wait until it is save to overtake. Without oncoming traffic sometimes they honk to let you know they are going to pass you. I have experienced otherwise in northern European “ countries”. The traffic in the cities can be chaotic, but even here they are considerate.
Habits: It bothered me that everything which is no longer needed is thrown away. In the bars and restaurants everything is simply thrown in the floor. In no time the place looks awful. As a cyclist you have a better view of the road ditches then the motorist. They are completely littered with “pet” bottles, beer cans and plastic bags. Maybe I’m just too sensible after living in Switzerland for over 40 years.
Mountains: For those who don’t enjoy so many climbs I would suggest booking a split flight, for example, arriving in Cordoba and departing from Algeciras or Gibraltar.
