Tuesday, March 25th, 2003 – Guadix – Jaén, 125 km.
After a restful night and a good breakfast off by 8:30 in a northwester direction toward Jaen. The further away one got from the rocky landscape of Guadix the more it changed into hilly scenery overgrown with olive and orange trees. Arriving from the east it’s not that easy to ride into Jaen .Firstly, the road turns into a highway which is prohibited for bikers. From there on it is purely a matter of feeling and guessing because there are no signs. To ad to this, it began to rain so the raingear had to be dug out (luckily only for half an hour). In the small village which I rode through there were no possibilities for overnighting, and considering the weather I didn’t feel like pitching my small tent (1.5 kilo, meant for emerging only). Shortly before 10:00 I reached the Tourist Office and a room was quickly found. Apart from the cathedral I liked Jaen least of all the big towns in Andalusia. It left somewhat of hectic impression but, subjectively speaking, maybe the reason was because it was such a strenuous day.
